Castle Howard is one of Britain's finest historic houses and is still home to the family whose forebears conceived, designed, and built it over three centuries ago.
When Castle Howard, York opens its doors to celebrate Christmas between 6th and 17th December, visitors will be able to enjoy two very different experiences.
This will be the first year that the Howard family welcome visitors into the decorated 18th century palace. Providing a unique opportunity for others to share the experience of their family home at this festive time. While at the Stable Courtyard, open daily all year, Castle Howard’s unique choice of shops will provide everything you need at Christmas for the home, friends and family.
Inside the House the family’s own decorations will be on display alongside traditional foliage arrangements and flickering candles, while the Great Hall fire will provide warmth and comfort from the chilly winter air. Festive music will entertain visitors as they move between the rooms listening to Castle Howard tales of Christmas past and present. After a tour of the House visitors can browse the Gift Shop for unique gift ideas and enjoy a selection of seasonal refreshments in the self-service Fitzroy Room.
At the entrance to the Gardens the Stable Courtyard, with free admission, is home to an award-wining Farm Shop and Courtyard Café; both offering the finest Yorkshire produce to enjoy at home and in the café.
